SOCIAL CHANGE
<--Click picture to review 3 key theories of social change.
Social change can occur extremely rapidly due to major historical events. Some key examples might include:
* invention of the printing press
* Results of World War I
* Pearl Harbor
* 9/11
* popularization of wireless technology
More often it occurs very slowly and is often unnoticed, especially when looking at acceptance of new approaches or philosophies
* acceptance of women politically, socially
* acceptance of BIPOC groups over the years
* acceptance of unions and workers' rights and freedoms
Technology is often a central factor in causing social change as it provides new ways of doing things; this naturally leads to a need for a change in the way people are affected by the new technology
* printing press: allowed for greater literacy among all groups, not just the aristocracy - eventually led to the formation of a class structure

Social Media & Political Change Task
Technology & Social Change - read pp. 102-122
Organized Persuasive Response 1-2 pages (350-500 words)
For decades people in impoverished countries have had to contend with
dictators propped up by the U.S. With numbers and world-wide press coverage on
their side, regular people are able to affect change in their country and push
for true political and social change.
In what ways can you see this trend affecting us in Canada? For example, how
could political change (or instability) in the Middle East impact us?
How could the youth of Canada use social media to create change in our own
country?
Consider positive and negative outcomes that could result from such
change
