INTRODUCTION TO ANTHROPOLOGY
"Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. To understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across all of human history, anthropology draws and builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as the humanities and physical sciences. A central concern of anthropologists is the application of knowledge to the solution of human problems."

Methodologies in Anthropology
Participant Observation is arguably the methodology most often associated with anthropology. This involves the researcher becoming immersed in a society's culture by living amongst the group. While there are obvious issues and concerns raised by this approach, there are also many solid reasons to use such an approach. Dian Fossey's famous mountain gorilla research is one example of such an approach.
